Polycera norvegica Sørensen, Rauch, Pola & Malaquias, 2020
Polycera norvegica closely resembles Polycera quadrilineata. However, in-depth investigations led to the description of the new species Polycera norvegica in 2020.
Polycera norvegica differs in that it occasionally has a black dotted or mottled dot pattern with more or less pronounced orange-brown spots, but never black solid or dashed stripes as in Polycera quadrilineata. The two species otherwise have the same basic color with a whitish base and yellow-orange tubercles. In addition to the less pronounced external differences, the scientists found anatomical differences that led to the new species.
The species name "norvegica" means Norway or Norwegian and refers to the fact that this squirrel snail is currently only known from Norway and from Scotland.
As food specialists, members of the genus feed on certain bryozoans.
