Rhinopias frondosa (Günther, 1892)
See curation of dragoon heads. Absolute rare fish which is seldomly available. This fish was photographed right after it has been delivered to Welke Lünen. It looked tough to me. It's husbandary should be limited to advanced aquariest. This fish came from Cebu, price tag: 220¤ (Jan '04).
Color varies greatly depending on habitat. Lives in algal reefs, but in deeper areas simply among sponges. The body is strongly compressed and covered with algae-like tufts. Found in fast-flowing channels with rich soft bottoms; also in rocky or coral-like habitats near algae, where it camouflages itself. Hunts its prey at night and feeds on fish and small invertebrates. Solitary between corals, rocks, and algae.
See keeping scorpionfish. This is an absolute rarity that very, very rarely comes onto the market.
This fish arrived at Welke Lünen and I was able to photograph it immediately upon its arrival.
It seemed to me to be not very sensitive. Care should be reserved for experienced aquarists.
