Info

Parupeneus rubescens has a pale reddish-brown body, though the color can vary—see the photo by Prof. Patzner—with a black spot on the base of its tail.

Due to its size and diet, this is not a suitable fish for a community aquarium; however, should it ever become commercially available, it is assumed to require a carnivorous diet consisting of chopped squid, scallops, fish meat, shrimp, and clams.

This barbel leaves corals alone; all other tankmates are considered potential natural prey.

As a “bottom-digger,” the fish—more or less constantly—stirs up the substrate and clouds the water.

Better left in the ocean!
