Info
Unfortunately, as with many other Leptogorgia species, there is little useful and reliable information available about this very pretty Cape gorgonian from South Africa.
The species was first described as Gorgonia capensis, and we have provided its first description under further links, from which the following information is available:
- A pretty yellow gorgonian
- Water depth 73 meters (40 fathoms)
- Height of colony 25 cm
Even the Coral Trait Database cannot provide any further data on this azooxanthellate gorgonian.
The “South African” Leptogorgia group comprises four species (Leptogorgia palma, Leptogorgia barnardi, Leptogorgia capensis, and Leptogorgia gilchristi), which occur exclusively in South Africa.
The informative website iNaturalist also lists red and orange gorgonians as Leptogorgia capensis, but these colors do not correspond to the color in the original description.
