Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Oculina virgosa are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Oculina virgosa, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Oculina virgosa, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Husbandry

Squires, 1958

Very special thanks for the first two photos of Oculina virgosa to Ian Skipworth, NeW Zealand, where this coral is found at Poor Knights Islands and Three Kings Islands.

This corals seems to be azooxanthellate, it has found almost always on overhanging rock faces in a depth range form 25 to 67 meters.
