Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Phoca largha are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Phoca largha, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Phoca largha, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

A seal very similar to the harbor seal, inhabiting the North Pacific from Alaska along the Pacific coast of Siberia to Japan and Korea. Males grow to 1.7 meters in length, females to 1.6 meters, but are otherwise indistinguishable. Largha seals come onto the pack ice to breed. They give birth to their young there from February to May. Outside of the breeding season, they migrate south.
