The colonies of this bryozoan are often very dense and usually reach a length of between 25-80mm.
The colonies are found on algae or hard substrates, often growing on algae of the species Fucus esiculosus, Fucus serratus and Ascophyllum nodosum.
It has also been found on the coral moss Corralina officinalis and can also grow on other mosses such as Flustra, Vesicularia and Alcyonidium.
Large upright colonies can develop in protected areas.
This species is tolerant of fluctuations in salinity and often occurs in abundance in brackish water, in the depth range of about 55 meters.
Color: transparent, white, cream or yellowish.
Reproduction: Colonies grow by asexual budding.
