Eastern Pacific: Wrangell, southeastern Alaska to Point Cabras, northern Baja California, Mexico.
Adults occur in rocky coasts and kelp beds, occasionally in sandy surf near rocks.
Feed on small crustaceans, worms, and mussels; occasionally on herring eggs.
Viviparous, female carries the developing young.
