Distribution
Eastern Atlantic: Mediterranean and Black Sea. (Linnaeus, 1758

Eastern Central Atlantic: Madeira Island.

Biology
Inhabits coastal rocky reef areas and Posidonia oceanica beds.
Like other sparids, it is very active and frequents the surf zone, primarily at dawn.
Feeds on shellfish and other benthic invertebrates which it picks from the sediment.

Husbandry know-how of owners

Ich habe 2 dieser tollen Tiere im Aquarium aufgezogen zuerst waren sie ca 1 cm große Jungtiere. Nach 6 Monaten sind sie bereits 8 cm groß.
Das tolle an den Tieren ist das sie sowohl Borstenwürmer als auch jegliche Algen verputzen.

Beobachtung 2012 Mittelmeer / Kreta:
juvenile Geißbrassen mit ca. 5-10cm. beißen / zwicken heftig, auch Menschen. Hauptsächlich Badende die sich nicht heftig bewegen (z.B. selten Schwimmer, sonder eher wenn man langsam ins Wasser geht. Nicht so sanft wie Garra Rufa !
