Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Physophyllia ayleni are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Physophyllia ayleni, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Physophyllia ayleni, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

“From Veron, J.E.N. Corals of the World.”
Wells, 1935

Description: Colonies form encrusting or tiered laminae. Laminae have vertical walls of irregular height, radiating towards the margins. These walls separate individual or small groups of corallites, which are consequently widely spaced.
Color: Dark brownish-green.
Habitat: Usually algae dominated rock.
Abundance: Uncommon.
Similar Species: Pectinia lactuca, which has similar but larger valleys with taller walls and less tendency to form tiered plates. See also P. maxima.
