Info

(Linnaeus, 1766)

The trumpetfish family (Aulostomidae) belongs to the suborder of the pipefishes. It comprises 3 known species, but these are of no importance to the aquarium hobby.

Their strikingly slender and elongated body makes them almost unmistakable and easy to identify. Trumpetfish come in different colorations. They adapt very well to their surroundings.

Trumpetfish live in tropical seas in coral reefs, juveniles certainly also in seagrass meadows.

Color variable, usually brown to gray-brown above, with diffuse light stripes and bars on the sides and on the hind body with a broad blackish bar between the soft dorsal and anal fins; sometimes completely yellow; an elongated black on the side of the lower jaw; a black spot on the front of the soft dorsal fin; a black spot above and below at the base of the caudal fin; no row of small black dots along the upper back.
