Info
Pleurocorallium porcellanum was discovered on Cross Seamount, Hawaii; its depth range is believed to be between 1,145 and 1,807 meters, though several sources also report the discovery of fragments at a depth of 318.98 meters.
This coral is one of the smaller deep-sea corals, but we were unable to determine its final size, as descriptions were always based on fragments ranging in size from 5 to 12 cm.
Pleurocorallium porcellanum is known to be endemic only to Cross Seamount in the southwest of the Hawaiian Archipelago.
We would like to thank the Hawaii Undersea Research Laboratory Archive for granting permission to use the photo of the coral.
