Info

Despite its wide geographical distribution across the Malay Archipelago, the Indian Ocean, and the Red Sea, there are very few photos of Aurelia maldivensis.
We would like to thank Mr. Tamada Ryota of the Kamo Aquarium in Japan for providing the first photo of this beautiful umbrella jellyfish; the photo was taken by Mr. Murai Takashi, one of the aquarists at the Kamo Aquarium.

Aurelia maldivensis is a rare jellyfish and a little-studied animal; neither water depths nor details regarding its diet are available, so we once again turned to the Kamo Aquarium in Japan, where Aurelia maldivensis is kept in the aquarium.
In live specimens viewed from above, the peach-colored gonads are the first thing to catch the eye.

In preserved specimens, the tentacles and radial canals are pale pink; the gonads and the aforementioned basal portions of the tentacles, which are filled with eggs, are intensely pink; and the bell is hyaline with a slight pinkish tinge.
