Info
Paramonacanthus oblongus is found in tropical waters over reefs and sandy bottoms and resembles the seagrass filefish Acreichthys tomentosus in the juvenile stage.
On the way to the adult stage, the body shape changes to "elongated", so that a visual comparison can easily lead to the conclusion that there are two different species.
Unfortunately, little is known about the lifestyle and biology of the filefish, which was originally native to Japanese waters.
Synonyms:
Monacanthus oblongus Temminck & Schlegel, 1850 · unaccepted
Stephanolepis oblongus (Temminck & Schlegel, 1850) · unaccepted
