Info
A deep-water coral was landed from the depths of Algoa Bay, which lies in the southern tip of South Africa in the south-western Indian Ocean, and baptized Williamsium parviflorum.
There is only sparse information available on the azooxanthellate animal, which we are happy to list here to complete the coral species.
The description of the coral was based on fragments, therefore exact size information is missing.
Not an animal for a home aquarium!
Etymology:
The genus "Williamsium" was named in honor of Dr. Gary Williams, in recognition of the extensive research he conducted on the octocorals from the waters around South Africa, including a redescription of the type species of the genus.
Synonym: Anthothela parviflora J.S. Thomson, 1916
