Info
Murex forskoehlii Röding, 1798
A snail from the family Muricidae, which are called spiny snails because of the more or less pronounced spines on the shell. They have a horny operculum to close the housing opening. The family includes small to very large snails with a worldwide distribution, especially in the tropics. Spiny snails feed predatorily on other invertebrates. Most spiny snails paralyze their prey with a neurotoxin; some species produce a mucus from which purple dye was previously obtained.
