Info

Tricleocarpa cylindrica is a red algae found in tropical and subtropical waters that settles mainly on hard substrates.

Algae are valuable oxygen producers in our oceans, providing, together with marine phytoplankton, 50% to 80% (depending on the scientific source) of the total oxygen production of the Earth's atmosphere.
A weighty argument for the protection of our oceans!

Etymology: "cylindrica" from the Latin "cylindricus" meaning cylindrical in shape.

Synonyms:
Corallina cylindrica J.Ellis & Solander, 1786
Galaxaura conglutinata Kjellann, 1900
Galaxaura cyclindrica (Solander) J.V.Lamouroux
Galaxaura cylindrica (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux, 1821
Galaxaura fastigiata Decaisne, 1842
Halysium cylindricum (J.Ellis & Solander) Kützing, 1843
