Info
Sibogagorgia californica occurs in deeper water zones from at least Lincoln County, Oregon, to southern California waters on the west coast of the United States in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
The coral forms thick, compact branches with color variations from pinkish-orange to pale pink.
The coenenchyma is thick and tough (as if cut by a raw carrot),the branches look moderately smooth, although lumpy in many places, with small calyces.
The polyp openings appear to be orange in color.
Stability of the coral is by skleites, which show a "pale pinkish orange".
This color-catching cold-water gorgonian is a clap-water animal and is not suitable for tpo warm home aquariums.
Etymology.
Nearly all of the specimens examined, with the exception of two, were from near the California Channel Islands, thus a reference to the state of California where most specimens were collected.
