The deep-sea gorgonian Iridogorgia flexilis was discovered on a ridge.on the Caroline Ridge, where it was growing on a rocky bottom.

Habitat info: water temperature of about 2.1 ◦C and salinity of 36.5 ppt.

The filigtrane spirals of the coral are ideal for catching minute plankton or marine snow.

Etymology. The Latin adjective flexilis (flexile) refers to the flexile axes of this species.
