Hemitaurichthys multispinosus Randall, 1975

Hemitaurichthys multispinosus also commonly referred as Many-spined butterflyfish is presently known only from the Pitcairn Islands. The islands of the Pitcairn Group in southeastern Oceania consist of Pitcairn, Henderson and the atolls of Oeno and Ducie.

The Many-spined butterflyfish is rarely see in the trade, and shown here mainly for identification purpose, as its better left in the wild.

Remarks:
Butterflyfish are not recommended for reefs as they will pick at or eat a wide variety of corals, fan worms, and other invertebrates. Most Butterflyfish are known to pick at Aiptaisia, a parasitic anemone.
