Info

Polybranchia schmekelae Medrano, Krug, Gosliner, Biju Kumar & Á. Valdés, 2018

Polybranchia is a genus of sacoglossan sea slugs, shell-less marine opisthobranch gastropod mollusks in the family Hermaeidae

Polybranchia schmekelae is a new descibed species in the year 2018. Body colour pale to dark olive-green with specks of brown scattered over dorsum.

Feeds mainly on Caulerpa racemosa. This species is mostly active at night.

This species is named in memory of Professor Dr Luise Schmekel (1935–2016), in recognition of her lifelong, seminal contributions to sea slug diversity (especially sacoglossans) in the Mediterranean Sea.
