Info
Pachycheles biocellatus is exclusively widespread in the eastern tropical Pacific, but the main focus of occurrence seems to be the Mexican coast.
The species name "biocellatus" comes from the words "bi" for "two" and "cellatus" -> ocellus ("a little eye") for "little eye" of this porcelain crayfish, which refers to the two small bright eye spots at the lower end of the carapace.
The reddish coloration of the animal is particularly striking.
Pachycheles biocellatus filters micoplankton from the water with its two feathery, larger mouthparts.
Synonyms:
Petrolisthes (Pisosoma) biocellatus Lockington, 1878
Petrolisthes gibbosicarpus Lockington, 1878
Pisosoma aphrodita Boone, 1932
