Zeacumantus subcarinatus (G. B. Sowerby II, 1855)
Zeacumantus subcarinatus occurs around the North Island and the northern part of the South Island of New Zealand, as well as the Chatham Islands, which are part of New Zealand. The species was introduced to New South Wales, Australia, where it is now established.
Zeacumantus subcarinatus has a small, black, upright shell with axial ribbing. it has a round, horny, mud-brown operculum and is smaller and darker than Zeacumantus lutulentus.
Habitat: The mud snail lives on mud flats, muddy rocks, and in intertidal pools in the mid-intertidal zone.
Diet: The snail passes mud through its gut to obtain nutrients.
