The colonies of the very small crustose anemone Bergia catenularis have very short polyps that form a chain-like encrustation on the surface of the sponges.
The polyps grow from each other by extensions (propagules), not from a common membrane. This species is characterized by a commensalistic and chain-like mode of colonization.

Polyps and coenenchyma are golden brown in color, have 10 capitular ridges, 20 tentacles with a maximum length of 1 mm,
The length and diameter of the extended polyps rarely exceeds 1 mm.

Host: symbiont sponges belonging to the family Petrosiidae, in this case the sponge Petrosia (Petrosia) weinbergi van Soest, 1980.
