Luidia maculata Müller & Troschel, 1842

Luidia maculata has a variable number of arms (5-9), but eight is the most common number. Luidia maculata occurs on soft bottoms,on sand an seagrass. This sea star is carnivorous,feeds on other echinoderms and molluscs. Eight-armed sand star is nocturnal.

Sometimes mistaken for the Common sea star Archaster typicus.
