Haliclona (Chalinula) nematifera (de Laubenfels, 1954)

Haliclona (Chalinula) nematifera belongs to the class of horn siliceous sponges (Demospongiae) to which about 85% of all recent species belong.This lavender to purple sponge with fine white lines forms its skeleton by strongly intertwined spongin. Haliclona (Chalinula) nematifera belongs to the invasive species, which spreads strongly adhering to ship hulls. It is found preferentially in coral reefs and on hard substrates.

It also overgrows living corals, causing them to die.
