The body is usually black.Juveniles are typically bright orange-red in colour, intermediate animals black with a black margin and a orange-red band and adults are black with white dots.The egg mass is a bright yellow and spiral shaped.This nudibranch lives under rocks and boulders on coral rubble,gravel,sand or in algal beds.Dendrodoris nigrad feeds on sponges.
This species is often confused with Dendrodoris arborescens.
